EC issues show-cause notice to Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP for ‘disparaging’ remarks against PM Modi on Social Media

On November 14, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Arvind Kejriwal, the convener of the Aam Aadmi Party and Chief Minister of Delhi, in connection with alleged derogatory remarks made against the prime minister on the party\’s social media platform. The Election Commission has asked for a response to the charge of violating the model code by November 16.

The notice from the EC stated, \”The posts prima facie appear to violate the MCC (Model Code of Conduct) as well as provisions of election and penal laws. You are requested to provide an explanation for the statement by November 16, elucidating why appropriate action for the violation of the MCC and provisions of election and penal laws should not be taken against you.\”

On November 10, the BJP had approached the Election Commission, urging action against the AAP for sharing a \”highly unacceptable\” and \”unethical\” video clip and comments on a social media platform targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Previously, the AAP had posted a video story on \’X\’ featuring industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Modi. Subsequently, the party shared an image of Adani and Modi, alleging that the prime minister prioritizes the interests of the industrialist over those of the people.
