According to a report from ANI, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) has confirmed that an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale struck Fayzabad in Afghanistan on Sunday. The seismic activity occurred at 18:53:18 (UTC 05:30). As of now, there have been no reports of casualties resulting from the tremors.
The NCS indicated that the earthquake\’s depth was recorded at 85 kilometers. Its epicenter was pinpointed at latitude 36.16°N and longitude 71.20°E.
To date, there have been no indications of material damage, according to the ANI report.
On the previous day, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. The NCS reported, \”An earthquake of Magnitude: 5.8 occurred on 05-08-2023 at 21:31:48 IST, Lat: 36.38 & Long: 70.77, Depth: 181 Km, Location: Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan.\”
On July 28, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake affected Afghanistan, registering a depth of 71.38 kilometers. The NCS provided details: \”An earthquake of Magnitude: 4.2 occurred on 28-07-2023 at 18:09:49 IST, Lat: 36.51 & Long: 71.38, Depth: 200 Km, Location: Afghanistan.\”
Further seismic activity was recorded on July 23 with a magnitude 4.6 earthquake in Afghanistan.
China also experienced a significant event on Sunday, with a shallow 5.4 magnitude earthquake striking its eastern region. This quake resulted in at least 23 injuries and the collapse of numerous buildings. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred at 2:33 am (1833 GMT Saturday), 26 kilometers south of Dezhou city in Shandong province, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was felt in locations as distant as Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai.
