The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Telangana, warning of the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the state until July 28.
On Tuesday, the Hyderabad MET department issued an orange alert, but from Wednesday to Friday, a red alert has been issued for several districts, including Warangal, Mahabubabad, Rangareddy, Hanumakonda, Khammam, Sangareddy, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Medak, Vikarabad, and Kamareddy.
Eastern districts of Telangana were likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Several other districts, including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Vikharabad, Sangareddy, Medchal, Medak, Kamareddy, Mehboobnagar, Siddipet, Jangaon, Nagarkurnol, Rajanna Sircilla, and Karimnagar, were also expected to receive heavy rainfall.
As a result of the incessant rainfall, several areas in the state reported severe waterlogging issues. The IMD issued an orange alert for districts including Hyderabad, Mulugu, Bhadradri Nalgonda, Suryapet, Kothagudem, Khammam, Jangaon, Siddipet, Warangal, Nirmal, Nalgonda, Hanumakonda, Kamareddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Mahabubnagar.
Hyderabad has an orange alert for Tuesday and a red alert for Wednesday and Thursday.
The Hyderabad weather department issued an advisory warning of potential waterlogging, traffic congestion, and drainage clogging. The advisory also cautioned about the possibility of trees and electrical poles getting uprooted during heavy downpours.
In the last 24 hours, Nizamabad in Telangana received the highest rainfall of 464 mm, while Hyderabad\’s Charminar reported 79 mm of rainfall.
Due to the heavy rainfall, the Telangana Directorate of School Education (DSE) has changed school timings. Schools in Telangana will now operate from 9.30 am to 4.45 pm, with upper primary schools continuing till 4:45 pm and primary schools ending at 4:15 pm. However, the timings for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad remain unchanged as per the academic calendar.
