IIT Delhi has announced its intention to establish a campus in Abu Dhabi.
On Saturday (15 July), an agreement was signed between India\’s Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This forthcoming campus in Abu Dhabi will be IIT\’s second international campus, with IIT Madras having recently signed an agreement to establish a campus in Zanzibar.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his excitement about the IIT Delhi campus in the UAE, seeing it as a symbol of the strong friendship between India and the UAE.
IIT Delhi has already commenced outreach programs for students in the UAE and plans to offer short courses and executive programs for the industry in the near future. By 2024, IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi will also offer degree programs.
The curriculum at the Abu Dhabi campus will encompass a diverse range of subjects, including energy and sustainability, artificial intelligence, computer science and engineering, healthcare, mathematics and computing, as well as other engineering, science, and humanities disciplines.
The decision to establish an IIT campus in the UAE was announced in August 2022.
IIT Delhi was chosen by the government to implement this proposal due to its expressed interest in establishing campuses in Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
As per a statement from IIT Delhi, the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus will collaborate with prominent institutions such as Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Khalifa University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Technology Innovation Institute, and Hub71. These collaborations aim to enhance the academic, research, and innovation ecosystem in Abu Dhabi.
The objective of the Abu Dhabi campus is to offer complementary programs, conduct cutting-edge research, and contribute to the local startup ecosystem.
The Abu Dhabi campus is scheduled to commence its academic programs in 2024, offering Bachelor\’s, Master\’s, and PhD degrees.
