Amid Heavy Rain, Holiday Declared For Schools In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

As heavy rains pummel various parts of Tamil Nadu, educational authorities in the districts of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Villupuram have formally declared school holidays. The Union Territory of Puducherry has similarly made this announcement, declaring a rain holiday for schools and colleges today.

This decision directly responds to the meteorological department\’s forecast of intense rainfall, ranging from heavy to very heavy, in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry on November 14.

Attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation, a low-pressure area is anticipated to form in the southeast Bay of Bengal, according to the information provided by the MET office.

The Meteorological Department has issued a precautionary advisory, foreseeing turbulent weather marked by wind speeds of up to 55 kmph, heightening concerns about safety.

The significance of the North East Monsoon cannot be overstated for Tamil Nadu, as it plays a crucial role in meeting the state\’s essential drinking water and irrigation needs. Until last week, the state had experienced a rainfall deficit of 17% compared to normal precipitation levels.
