Among the companies that have submitted applications to partake in the government\’s production-linked incentive (PLI) initiative for IT hardware in India are Asus, Dell, HP, and Foxconn, totaling 38 firms. Interestingly, Apple has made the decision to refrain from participating in this endeavor.
This development has come to light several weeks after the government initially introduced and subsequently deferred a licensing requirement related to the import of laptops and personal computers. This situation prompted notable electronics hardware manufacturers to express their concerns. The implementation of this regulation has now been postponed until October 31.
As the PLI scheme extends over a span of six years, the anticipated rise in production is projected to reach approximately Rs 3.35 lakh crore. However, the additional investment expected during this timeframe is comparatively modest at Rs 4,000 crore. The government envisions that this expansion in manufacturing could yield the creation of around 75,000 direct jobs, according to statements by Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
