Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has highlighted the continuation of dense to very dense fog in Northwest India and parts of adjacent Central India for the next two to three days.
According to the IMD forecast, dense to very dense fog conditions are anticipated in many parts of Punjab from December 27th to 31st. Moreover, specific areas in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh may experience these conditions between December 27th and 29th. Isolated regions in north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh are expected to witness dense fog on December 27th.
Additionally, the early hours are likely to see dense fog in isolated pockets over Odisha and Uttarakhand on December 27th and 28th, in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on December 30th and 31st, and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from December 27th to 31st.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the weather department anticipates dry weather with moderate to dense fog persisting over Central Kashmir, Pulwama, and Baramulla until December 31st. From January 1st to 2nd, there is a prediction of light rain and snow in scattered locations, accompanied by cloudy skies.
On December 26th, dense fog impacted visibility in various areas, resulting in delays for approximately 30 flights, including international ones, at the Delhi airport, with 14 trains also affected.
Punjab and Haryana witnessed a dense fog blanket on Tuesday, with very dense fog reported in cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Halwara, Bathinda, Karnal, Hisar, Ambala, and Sirsa.
The IMD issued a rainfall alert, indicating that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from December 30th. Under its influence, light isolated rainfall is expected over Northwest and adjoining Central India from December 30th to January 2nd, 2024.
Furthermore, the IMD has forecasted light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Tamil Nadu from December 30th, 2023, to January 1st, 2024.
