Omar Abdullah, a prominent figure in the National Conference (NC), conveyed on Sunday that the BJP has faced a substantial setback in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil elections, and he emphasized that this outcome should serve as a stark wake-up call for the saffron party.
As of now, the NC and the Congress have jointly secured 21 seats, with the vote tally still in progress.
Out of the 26 seats contested on October 4th, the results for 25 have been officially declared. Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has succeeded in winning only two seats. Additionally, it\’s important to note that the Jammu and Kashmir administration nominates four members with voting rights to the 30-member LAHDC-Kargil.
Abdullah underlined that the electoral outcome in Kargil carries a powerful message against the division of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, a division that occurred without seeking the input of the region\’s residents.
He articulated, \”Today, the NC-Congress alliance decisively defeated the BJP in Kargil. In celebration of our robust partnership with the Congress party, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference is pleased to announce its triumph in the LAHDC-Kargil elections.\”
\”This result conveys a message to all entities and political groups that, in an undemocratic and unconstitutional manner, divided the state of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh without the consent of its people,\” he further stated.
Abdullah, who formerly served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, attributed the electoral victory to the people of Zanskar, Kargil, and Drass, who have overwhelmingly endorsed the NC-Congress alliance.
He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the elected council members, commending their dedication to serving the public. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Congress party for their unwavering support.
Abdullah underscored that these election results should serve as a clarion call for the BJP, urging them to acknowledge the desire of the people in Jammu and Kashmir for a democratically-elected government.
Furthermore, he conveyed his appreciation to the party workers for their diligent efforts in securing the electoral triumph. He reiterated the commitment of the JKNC to the principles of democracy, justice, and unity, as they tirelessly work to safeguard the rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
