Students protest drastic cut in research fellowships by Maharashtra government

The Maharashtra government’s attempt to significantly reduce the number of fellowships granted to research scholars from marginalized communities has sparked protests among concerned students.

For the last 29 days, students affiliated with Other Backward Classes (OBC) have engaged in an ongoing hunger strike at Azad Maidan. Their main demand is an increase in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research Fellowship (MJPRF) offered by Mahajyoti Sansthan to OBC and nomadic community students pursuing their Ph.D.
