Opposition factions in Jammu and Kashmir are preparing for a gathering scheduled to take place in Jammu on Tuesday. The meeting\’s agenda encompasses a range of critical issues, including the deferment of local body and panchayat elections in the Union Territory and the allocation of seats for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections within the INDIA bloc.
According to a senior leader cited by KNS, the meeting will also deliberate on the current situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir and throughout the country, especially in light of the divisive policies being implemented by the current administration.
The leader announced, \”The meeting will be chaired by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, and will be held at Hotel Radisson in Jammu at 2 pm tomorrow.\”
The leader further elaborated that discussions would encompass the launch of a mass movement in response to the postponement of local body and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
\”We will delve into the reports indicating the delay of local body and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, we will address the arrangements for seat-sharing in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections within the INDIA bloc, alongside several other pressing concerns, including the prevailing conditions in J&K and the broader national context,\” the leader added.
Regarding the exclusion of three parties, namely Apni Party, People\’s Conference, and Ghulam Nabi Azad\’s party from the meeting, the leader defended the decision, asserting that extending invitations to them would likely have been futile, given their perceived alignment with the BJP and their close cooperation with the present administration.
The leader reaffirmed their openness to collaborating with any party interested in joining their efforts.
The meeting will be attended by prominent figures, including Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Peoples Democratic Party, senior CPI(M) leader M. Y. Tarigami, as well as other senior leaders from Kashmir and various parties representing the Jammu region.
