India votes in favour of UNGA resolution demanding immediate ceasefire in Gaza

India backed a UN General Assembly draft resolution, urging an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and the unconditional release of hostages. Introduced by Egypt, the resolution received 153 votes in favor, 23 abstentions, and 10 votes against. It emphasized adherence to international law, including the protection of civilians, and the release of hostages. India also supported a US-proposed amendment explicitly condemning Hamas for terrorist attacks and hostage-taking. This vote contrasts with India\’s abstention in a similar resolution in October.
