Gandhi Jayanti 2023 Highlights: ‘Mahatma practised complete transparency,’ says Jairam Ramesh

Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, occupies a revered position in the annals of both India\’s and the world\’s history. His birth anniversary is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti, a dedicated day to pay tribute to his life and lasting legacy. His philosophy, often referred to as \”Satyagraha,\” centered on truth, nonviolence, and simplicity, continues to be a perpetual source of inspiration for generations worldwide.

On the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi and underscored the enduring relevance of his teachings. Gandhi\’s influence transcends borders, motivating humanity to embrace unity and compassion. The Prime Minister called upon us to actively work towards realizing Gandhi\’s aspirations and stressed that Gandhi\’s principles can empower the younger generation to become agents of positive change, fostering unity and harmony.

Gandhi Jayanti in India also marks \’Swachh Bharat Diwas\’ or \’Swachhta Diwas.\’ This nationwide initiative was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who collaborated with fitness influencer Ankit Baiyanpuriya for a cleanliness campaign. Responding to Modi\’s call, individuals from various backgrounds, including politicians and students, actively participated in the \’Swachhata hi Seva\’ campaign. Numerous ministries, government agencies, and social organizations united in this collective effort to champion the cause of cleanliness.

Prime Minister Modi shared a 4-minute video on his official account, emphasizing the significance of both cleanliness and well-being and promoting a holistic approach to achieving a clean and healthy India.

In a recent episode of \”Mann Ki Baat,\” Modi called upon all citizens to dedicate \”one hour of shramdaan\” for cleanliness on October 1, considering it a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his birth anniversary.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah actively participated in a cleanliness drive in Ahmedabad, symbolically wielding a broom. Likewise, BJP chief JP Nadda also joined the cleanliness initiative, taking part in the drive in Delhi\’s Jhandewalan area.
