The incident at the Jehovah\’s Witnesses convention center in Kalamassery, Kerala, involved a series of explosions during a prayer meeting, resulting in one fatality and 36 injuries. Subsequently, security measures were heightened in both the national capital and Mumbai. In response to the situation, the Delhi Police increased security in crowded areas, while the Mumbai Police issued a high alert, taking into account ongoing festivities, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent blasts in Kerala. Security was also reinforced at Chabad House in Mumbai due to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The Delhi Police\’s Special Cell is actively cooperating with intelligence agencies and treating all available information seriously, with a focus on enhancing security in crowded locations.
The Kerala Police has reported that the attack involved the use of an improvised explosive device (IED) and has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to conduct a thorough inquiry. There have been reports suggesting that the explosive device was concealed in a tiffin box.
Furthermore, Home Minister Amit Shah communicated with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to address the series of explosions. Mr. Shah directed the heads of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG), both specialized agencies in counterterrorism investigations and operations, to deploy their expert teams to the scene for a comprehensive investigation.
