Thursday morning saw the national capital, Delhi, and its surrounding regions enveloped in a dense fog layer, resulting in diminished visibility on roads and causing disruptions to train and flight schedules. Delhi Airport recorded approximately 134 flight delays, impacting both domestic and international arrivals and departures, due to the thick fog, as reported by the Flight Information Display System (FIDS).
On Wednesday, more than 25 trains, encompassing both arrivals and departures, experienced delays, while 110 flights, spanning domestic and international services, encountered delays, according to ANI, citing information from Delhi Airport\’s FIDS.
Visuals from Indira Gandhi International Airport portrayed the challenging weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated the likelihood of dense to very dense fog persisting over Northwest India and parts of adjoining Central India for the next two days.
The IMD\’s recent bulletin detailed the forecast for dense to very dense fog in numerous parts of Punjab from December 27th to 31st, specific areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from December 27th to 29th, and isolated pockets of north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh on December 27th. Additionally, dense fog conditions are expected in early hours in isolated pockets over Odisha and Uttarakhand on December 27th and 28th, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on December 30th and 31st, and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from December 27th to 31st.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the weather forecast predicts dry conditions along with moderate to dense fog persisting over Central Kashmir, Pulwama, and Baramulla until December 31st. Moving forward, the MeT forecast foresees light rain and snow in scattered locations with cloudy skies during January 1st to 2nd.
On December 26th, dense fog disrupted visibility in various areas, resulting in delays for around 30 flights, including international ones, at the Delhi airport. Additionally, 14 trains were impacted by the adverse weather conditions.
