As reported by ANI, a tragic incident unfolded in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives of an Indian Army Colonel, a Major, and a police official. A confrontation erupted between security forces and terrorists who had taken cover in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district, according to a statement by a police official.
Confirming the fatalities, Indian Army officials conveyed, \”An Indian Army Colonel, commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Unit, and a Major have tragically lost their lives in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Kashmir. The officer leading this operation was in charge of the 19 RR.\”
Additionally, it was disclosed that \”a Jammu and Kashmir Police official also lost his life during the encounter. The Army officers assumed the forefront of the operation upon receiving specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the vicinity,\” as articulated by Indian Army officials.
In the meantime, ANI reported that an engagement initiated in the Narla area of Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday resulted in the demise of two terrorists at the hands of security forces. Authorities further conveyed that an extensive quantity of warlike supplies, including medicines bearing markings associated with Pakistan, had been recovered during the ongoing operation.
Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, Defence PRO, disclosed that the Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir police had been monitoring the movements of two terrorists since September 7. He stated, \”Troops established a cordon around the terrorists, leading to an intense firefight on September 12, resulting in the demise of one terrorist on the same night. Despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain, the second terrorist was tracked and neutralized on the morning of September 13 following continuous and heavy exchanges of gunfire throughout the night.\”
The PRO\’s statement also noted, \”A significant quantity of warlike materials, including medicines with markings indicating their origin from Pakistan, was seized. Regrettably, one soldier from the 63 RR made the ultimate sacrifice, and three soldiers and a Special Police Officer sustained injuries. Additionally, an Army canine companion also lost its life during the operation.\”
