At the BRICS Summit, an unusual incident unfolded involving Chinese President Xi Jinping, who was left perplexed when one of his aides was halted by security personnel.
A video that has been widely circulated on social media captures the moment: as Mr. Jinping was proceeding towards a hall, a man—presumed to be a Chinese security official—began sprinting in an attempt to catch up with the president. However, just as the man was nearing Xi, a South African security official quickly intervened, preventing him from entering due to his suspicious actions.
Caught off guard, the Chinese president appeared puzzled, repeatedly looking back, only to realize that the doors had already closed.
The reasons behind this baffling situation remain unclear. Some reports suggest that the security official in question might have been assigned as Xi Jinping\’s designated translator.
In a separate context, at the BRICS Summit hosted in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged a handshake and engaged in a brief conversation on Thursday. This interaction occurred prior to the leaders jointly delivering a statement for the 15th BRICS Summit. As they walked towards their designated seats, PM Modi and the Chinese Premier were seen conversing.
After the formal briefing, the two leaders once again shared a handshake on the stage.
Furthermore, during the ongoing Summit, a noteworthy announcement was made: Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are poised to join BRICS, commencing their membership from January 2024.
