Standing tall among enthusiastic Kashmiris’: Mehbooba Mufti invokes Nehru ahead of I-Day

Former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, utilized the social platform X (formerly Twitter) to present contrasting images of India\’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and the current Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha.

\”Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru proudly raising the tricolor amidst a crowd of enthusiastic Kashmiris at Lal Chowk in Srinagar circa 1949. In 2023, the LG administration holding the same national flag surrounded by a group of security personnel,\” the leader of the People\’s Democratic Party shared in anticipation of Independence Day.

Mufti\’s shared photo depicted India\’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, addressing the crowd at Srinagar\’s Lal Chowk.

On the recent Sunday, Manoj Sinha inaugurated the \’Har Ghar Tiranga\’ rally from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre to the Botanical Garden in Srinagar. Leading the rally, the J&K Lieutenant Governor held the Indian tricolour, while participants chanted \’Bharat Mata Ki Jai\’ slogans.

Sinha\’s reference indirectly alluded to Mufti, who, before the revocation of Article 370, had suggested that there might not be anyone left to hoist the national flag if J&K\’s special status was revoked.

Even school students took part in the \’Har Ghar Tiranga\’ rally in Srinagar, organized by the J&K Police under the \’Meri Maati Mera Desh\’ campaign.

Independence Day in the Kashmir Valley will witness no restrictions or internet bans, according to the J&K administration. Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri conveyed, \”There will be no restrictions on August 15 throughout the Kashmir valley, and internet services will remain operational. The significant interest shown by people in the \’Mere Maati Mera Desh\’ campaign is a positive indication.\”
