Due to flash floods and landslides in Himachal Pradesh\’s Kinnaur District, the Deputy Commissioner has announced holidays for all schools from 20th to 22nd July. The closure applies to government and private schools, pre-schools, and Anganwaris in Sub-Division Nichar and Tehsil Sangla.
Earlier, a cloudburst in Kinnaur district led to a flood-like situation, blocking the Karcham Sangla Chitkul road at multiple locations due to heavy rainfall.
The situation remains critical as the death toll in Himachal Pradesh has now surpassed 130 in the last 26 days, with five new deaths reported on Wednesday. The Revenue Minister, Jagat Singh Negi, confirmed this data, stating that the rain havoc continues, and the government is on high alert. Two teams of officials from the Union government are in the state, assessing the flood and rain-related losses in Solan and Mandi districts.
The current figures reveal that 12 people are still missing, 153 people have been injured, 572 houses have been damaged, and an additional 4,703 houses have suffered partial damage. Moreover, 148 shops and 1,286 cowsheds have been affected by the heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh.
As per the State Disaster Management Authority, the total estimated loss incurred due to the monsoon\’s impact stands at 4,808.79 crore. The state has also witnessed 61 cases of landslides and 44 cases of flash floods during this monsoon season
