SC gives ‘final opportunity’ to Maharashtra Speaker to give ‘realistic’ timeline to decide disqualification pleas

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, leading the Supreme Court bench, granted a \’last chance\’ to Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Rahul Narwekar, on Tuesday, to provide a \’practical schedule\’ for the resolution of disqualification petitions arising from the Shiv Sena split.

The bench also made remarks regarding interviews in which Narwekar claimed that the Speaker\’s office holds a \’co-equal\’ status. Additionally, the bench noted that, when acting as the \’tribunal\’ overseeing disqualification proceedings, the Speaker is subject to the jurisdiction of the highest court.
