Starting from today, the Karnataka government will commence the registration process for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. This financial assistance initiative aims to support women in Karnataka, with the women head of a household receiving a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000.
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme was one of the electoral promises made by the newly elected Congress government in the state. It is designed to improve the livelihoods of women in Karnataka. The registration of beneficiaries will be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a program to be held at 5.30 pm at Vidhana Soudha.
Earlier this month, during the presentation of the state budget for the current fiscal year, Siddaramaiah allocated a budget of Rs 24,166 crore for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. The government claims that this scheme will benefit around 12.8 million families in the state.
To be eligible for the scheme, women must be listed as the head of the family on Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) cards. Those women or their husbands who pay income tax or GST are not eligible to avail of the scheme. Additionally, the woman must not be a government employee. Only one woman per family can be a beneficiary of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.
The registration process for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme can be done both online and offline. Women can visit the assigned centers in their localities with all the required documents to register. Additionally, state officials will conduct door-to-door registration to enroll beneficiaries. For online registration, eligible women can visit the official portal of Seva Sindhu Guarantee scheme.
