Established in 1975 under the Companies Act, 1956, NHPC was created with the main goal of developing hydropower resources in the country. NHPC Power Generation Capacity 

NHPC’s total installed power generation capacity stands at 8,247.18 MW, which includes:

  • 7,771.20 MW from 23 Hydro Power Stations
  • 425.98 MW from 5 Solar Power Projects
  • 50 MW from 1 Wind Power Project
  • 1,681.70 MW through Joint Ventures

In terms of hydroelectric power, NHPC contributes 7,771.20 MW, which makes up approximately 16.21% of India’s total installed hydro capacity of 47,928.16 MW.
