India has decided to observe state mourning on 21 May 2024 after the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash, which was confirmed by Tehran one day ago.
Observing or declaring a national mourning day is designated by the by Ministry of Home Affairs at the national government. State government also can declare state mourning day/s in their respective state.
On the day of mourning in India, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the country and in Indian missions abroad.
No ceremonial functions will be organised and there shall be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning. Memorial activities are often organised by people.
