Home Minister Amit Shah Emphasizes Justice Over Punishment in Three New Criminal Code Bills : 

The Lok Sabha recently passed three significant criminal code bills, namely the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023. Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that these bills, replacing colonial-era laws, prioritize \”Indianness,\” the Indian Constitution, and public well-being. 9th Round of auction for commercial coal mines: 

Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the 9th round of Commercial Coal Mine Auctions in New Delhi, offering 26 mines. Sahitya Akademi announced its 2023 awards in 24 languages, including nine poetry books, six novels, five short story collections, three essays, and one literary study. Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, 2023 Returns After Discussion by Rajya Sabha : 

The Parliament has passed the Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, 2023, with the Rajya Sabha returning it to the Lok Sabha after discussion. The Bill, already cleared by the Lok Sabha, aims to enforce immediate effects for a limited period concerning provisions in Bills related to customs or excise duties. It also intends to repeal the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act, 1931, retaining all its provisions regarding the interim imposition or increase of customs or excise duty. read more

The Judge Advocate General (JAG) Department, the legal arm of the Army responsible for dispensing justice, is celebrating its 40th Corps Day on December 21, 2023. This commemorates the day in 1949 when the Bill for the Army Act was introduced in Parliament.
