Commencing this Friday, the AAP is set to launch a signature campaign to solicit public input on whether Arvind Kejriwal should step down as Delhi\’s chief minister if arrested or persist in governing from jail.
Gopal Rai, AAP Delhi convener, emphasized, \”The people of Delhi have entrusted a mandate to AAP. Therefore, our government exists within Delhi. The decision of whether to resign after arrest or to govern from jail will be made after seeking public input. For this purpose, Arvind Kejriwal has urged party workers to visit households in Delhi and collect public opinions.\”
In relation to the excise policy case, where Kejriwal faced summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), AAP leaders alleged it to be \”fake,\” asserting that \”the BJP’s conspiracy is to get Kejriwal arrested.\” Kejriwal, not named as an accused in the case, avoided questioning, denouncing the ED notice as \”illegal and politically motivated.\” Senior party leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, along with AAP communications in-charge Vijay Nair, have been arrested in connection with the case.
The \’Mai Bhi Kejriwal\’ signature campaign will involve AAP volunteers distributing pamphlets to gather opinions from people across Delhi\’s 2,600 polling stations.
Rai highlighted that Kejriwal consulted with AAP MLAs and councillors, with a consensus that he should not resign but instead continue governing from jail.
Following the signature campaign, a \’Jan Samvad\’ is slated in every ward of the city between December 21 and 24 to address discussions on the alleged liquor scam.
