Sanatana Dharma Remark Row: ‘Mischievous spin’, Congress MP defends TN minister Udhayanidhi Stalin

On Sunday, Karti Chidambaram, a Congress MP, came to the defense of Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin\’s remarks about \’Sanatana Dharma,\’ dismissing them as a \’deliberate misinterpretation.\’ Chidambaram asserted that \’Sanathana Dharma\’ is a reference to a \’Caste Hierarchical Society\’ according to the common parlance in Tamil Nadu.

In a social media post (formerly on Twitter), the Congress MP conveyed, \”In the vernacular of Tamil Nadu, \’Sanathana Dharma\’ is often understood as denoting a Caste Hierarchical Society.\”

He elaborated further, questioning, \”Why is it that those championing \’SD\’ predominantly hail from the privileged segment that benefits from this \’Hierarchy\’? There was no endorsement of \’Genocide\’ against anyone; this has been a misrepresentation.\”

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, has ignited a nationwide political controversy with his statements about \’Sanatana Dharma.\’ BJP leaders have strongly reacted to Stalin characterizing Sanatana Dharma as \’incompatible\’ and calling for its elimination.

BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla commented, \”This can be interpreted as nothing less than a genocidal call, and Karti Chidambaram of the Congress party has supported it… The question arises, is this about \’Love and Harmony\’ or \’Enmity and Discord\’?… This consistently opposes the idea of \’Sanatana.\’\”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also criticized Stalin\’s remarks regarding Sanatana Dharma, stating that it has exposed the true intentions of certain individuals in Tamil Nadu.

Pradhan mentioned, \”Just a few days ago, we celebrated Kashi Tamil Sangamam, and Lord Vishwanath is revered in every village in Tamil Nadu… \’Sanatana\’ signifies eternal, and these political statements won\’t alter that fact.\”

On Saturday, Udhayanidhi Stalin stated, \”Sanatana is akin to malaria and dengue, and therefore, it must be eliminated rather than opposed.\”

These statements have triggered a substantial backlash on social media, with many individuals urging legal action against the Tamil Nadu minister.

Amit Malviya of the BJP took to social media to criticize MK Stalin, remarking, \”While Rahul Gandhi speaks of \’Love Shops,\’ the scion of the Congress ally DMK talks about eradicating Sanatana Dharma.\”

Malviya further asserted, \”The silence of the Congress amounts to endorsement of this genocidal call. If given the chance, INDIA Alliance, true to its name, would obliterate the ancient civilization that is Bharat.\”
