The Indian High Commission, on Wednesday, declared its decision to resume specific visa services in Canada starting from October 26. This move is aimed at mitigating the tensions that had arisen following the assassination of a Sikh separatist leader in Canada.
In the previous month, India had suspended the issuance of new visas to Canadians and urged Canada to reduce its diplomatic presence. This action was taken in response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\’s assertion, which was based on credible evidence suggesting a potential link between Indian agents and the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, in a Vancouver suburb in June. In response to this, Canada recalled 41 diplomats.
On Wednesday, the Indian High Commission disclosed that, after a security evaluation and considering recent Canadian measures, which were not explicitly detailed, they have chosen to resume the issuance of specific visa categories. These reinstated visas will include standard entry visas, as well as those for business, medical, and conference purposes.
