Continuous rainfall induced by a low-pressure system is causing the water level to rise in various rivers of Odisha. The Engineer-in-Chief of the State Water Resources Department, Bhakta Ranjan Mohanty, reassured that, apart from Baitarani, there is no flood threat in any other rivers in the State.
Khairamal in Boudh is currently experiencing around five lakh cusecs of water flow, and it is expected that about six lakh cusecs of floodwater will reach Mundali by 10 am tomorrow.
Mohanty stated that the Water Resource Department is fully vigilant and prepared for any potential situations. Senior officers have been dispatched to Jajpur and Bhadrak to assess the flood conditions there.
He further explained that the floodwater would breach the danger level mark at Akhuapada later in the evening. However, other rivers in Odisha, including Mahanadi, are not likely to face flood threats, although their water levels will rise.
As of now, Baitarani has surpassed the danger mark at Rajghat, with the river\’s current water level standing at 39.14 m against the danger mark of 36.36 m.
Additionally, the Bansadhara River in the Gajapati district is also flowing above the danger mark, with water at 54.90 m near Kashinagar compared to the danger mark of 54.60 m.
